THE TUMOR IS ALIVE

Sinara agad nila ang tiyan ng ale at nag-apologize for the wrong diagnosis.

Not as good as what Australia or Canada or the other European countries provide. Actually there are no safety nets in Singapore. Lee Kwan Yu does not believe in a welfare state because he thinks it is not good for the country, i.e. magiging tamad ang mga tao, too much reliance on the institutions, etc. This transcends to everything: walang libreng pabahay, hospitalization, pagkain, etc.

They have a pension plan called CPF where you contribute a part of your salary (in most cases 20% of your salary na tinutumbasan ng company mo). This goes to a savings fund that can be used to buy a house, car, pay for your hospitalization and health costs, etc. But you have to be working to get CPF. Hehehe… no work, no pay.

Will it work in the long term? Ewan. In general, it seems to work dahil mayaman ang bansa at well-off ang majority ng population. But there is a small portion of the population who somehow get the short end of the deal – kadalasan, mga senior citizens na 60-70 yrs old na nagtatrabaho sa McDonalds o kaya nagpupunas ng mga lamesa sa mga turo-turo. During the financial crisis, maraming nawalan ng trabaho…since walang welfare, back to zero ang karamihan. Sa mga foreign workers din – if you lose your job or resign, you have to be out of the country in two weeks kung di ka makakita ng kapalit na trabaho.
