Sunrise doesn’t last all morning

around this time last year, umuwi kami sa pilipinas ni jet kasi 80th birthday party ng mommy ko. medyo masama ang pakiramdam ko nung time na yon dahil 2 days nang sumasakit ang aking tiyan. akala ko eh bulate lang o kaya impatso. i will find out later na hindi pala at kahit anong dami ng inumin kong combantrin eh hindi ako gagaling. my dear brother en sister, exactly one year ago today, pumasok ako sa hospital para magpatuli dahil sumabog ang appendix ko. at kasabay nito ang paghinto ko sa paninigarillo. en teyk nowt, huminto ako ng cold turkey baby, cold turkey. major milestone sa buhay ko talaga yan kasi i’ve been a smoker for over 20 years and have been trying to quit for the longest time at hindi ko magawa. parati na lang akong may excuse – kesyo maraming pressure sa trabaho, kailangan ko sa pag entertain ng mga customers, kesyo masarap tumae pag naninigarillo, etc. etc. my dad and my brother died of smoking related illnesses and i knew that if i didn’t stop, i’d probably die from it as well someday. there’s nothing like being hospitalized to make you start thinking about your mortality. perhaps, that was the reason why i was able to stop – i didn’t want to die just yet. happy anniversary to myself. bilang regalo sa sarili ko, bibili ako ng isang kahang marlboro reds. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  4. hey, better not temp faith and leave that box of Marlboro reds alone 🙂 Congrats, bossing on your 1 year smoke free anniversary. Another one bites the dust, but at least it aint you!

  5. Happy smoke-free anniversary mylab. Sana one year from now makapabcelebrate na din ako ng smoke-free anniversary ko. Hmm… let’s see. Oh wow, so I only have 354 days to go! ehehehe 🙂

  6. ngyehehe… hi jmom. oo nga naman. i won’t even attempt to buy a pack. i am glad i stopped. until now, i don’t know how i was able to do it but i am glad that i did. thank you sa bati, hopefully, i won’t smoke ever again

  7. thank you sa bati mylab. a year from now, ikaw naman ang maglalagay ng 1st smoke free yean anniversary special. mark the milestones and tell everybody that you’ve decided to stop smoking. dagdag yan sa motivation mo not to smoke anymore. ingat ka diyan mylab – lab U!

  8. oh carol, ayam batapul. hehehe.

maraming salamat sa bati. hayaan mo, pagsasabihan ko si jet na ipagpatuloy ang pag hinto. she hasn’t smoked for over a week now. that’s a good sign.

  9. Congratulations on your first smoke-free year! I know how difficult it is to quit because I quit 3 years ago. Parang baliw ako ng mga 3 buwan, tapos okay na. Now I can’t stand smoke anymore.

This is a lesson for all smokers wanting to quit: it’s very difficult but not impossible. But you have to want it for yourself for very specific reasons. No amount of persuasion from anybody else can make you stop.

  10. hi carla. thank you and congratulations to you too. wow – three smoke free years. that’s really impressive. ako rin, i can’t stand smoker’s breath anymore. may bago akong kaupisinang smoker and i can smell him after he smokes. bahu. i agree – it’s diffucult to stop smoking but not impossible and you have to really want to stop.

  11. oh,how i miss reading your posts!
galing nung blogging entry, very informative and funny.. you’re really cool,batjay..im becoming a fan.. also of your lovely wife!

and great you are still smoke free. galing din ng determination mo,a good influence and model for those who wanna quit smoking grass, este sigarilyo pala.

  12. combantrin hahaha i remember na takot na takot ako dyan kasi sabi ng nanay ko pang-alis ng bulate. susme naman, for a kid to be told na may bulate siya sa tiyan eh scary enough, tapos palabasin mo pa sa banyo? yikes! eh kung kagatin ako non hahaha

happy anniv and congrats to your no smoking attitude. o siya, eto piso pandagdag sa kaha ng reds hehe

  13. isang taon na yun?

ambilis. magkano natipid mo lahat lahat sa di pagsigarilyo.

ako kasi walang problema diyan, malakas ako humithit at humingi nung kabataan ko…so no gastos!

    Congarats Batjay!

  14. hi transience.

that was my mantra before i stopped smoking – “i love my ciggies. i should stop soon but not now”. i started chanting it on the eve of my 29th birthday in the hope that by the time i hit 30, i’d have the courage to stop. it took me 10 years to finally say no to smoking.

anyway, i just wanted you to know that i have added you in my favorite writer’s list. your site is one of the best (if not THE best) i’ve read this year.

  15. isang taon na brother junnie. ang bilis ano? magkano bang natipid ko, let me count the ways…

    1 pack is S$ 11
1 pack per day taymis 365 days equals S$ 4015

    $4015 taymis 33 pesos/S$1 equals 132,495 pesoses.

  17. domo arigatu gusaimasu sachiko san.

you are the one that’s cool. and yes – i’ve been smoke free for 1 year. i don’t know how i was able to do it. i hope i can continue to be smoke free porebereneber. smoking grass, hmmm… that’s another thing. hehehe. pinupugutan ata ng ulo pag nahuli ka sa singapore. kaya hanggang tiger beer lang ako.
