Past the arms of the familiar

nabanggit ko na ba na tatakbo ako sa mud run itong darating na october sa camp pendleton? taon-taon ay may karera sa putikan sa loob ng malaking marine base papuntang san diego. sobra na nga ang popularity nito na mayroon nang 4 na race na ginagawa all through the year and even then, parati itong sold out.

simple lang naman: tatakbo ka sa putikan ng 10 kilometro pero all throughout, mayroon kang dadaanang mga pampagana – “hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, two 5-foot walls with mud on both sides, tunnel crawl, slippery hill climb, and the final 30-foot mud pit”.

bilang paghahanda ay nagsisimula na ulit akong tumakbo ng long distance. kahit kasi 10K lang ang mud run, kailangan mag train ako ng mas matindi para ma overcome ko  yung mga additional obstacles. hindi ko pa nasubukan tumakbo sa putik pero sanay naman ako sa putikan dahil nung bata ako, parati akong nakikipag wrestling doon sa mga kalabaw ni mang bernie sa amin sa barrio talipapa.

nung weekend, nagsimula ako ng 5 miles. excited nga ako dahil maganda yung tinakbo ko. ang sarap kasi pag nag tugma-tugma yung lugar, panahon, fitness level at musikang pinakikinggan. pag nangyayari ito, yung pakiramdam mo sa pagtakbo ay  parang multiple orgasm.

  1. whoa, ibang level ka na talaga for a middle aged, etc etc 🙂
    may fun run din kami dito sa office at sa 5K lang ako sumali. pero nagpauna na ko na magsabi na i will walk. basta makatapos! bilib ako sa endurance mo boss!

    • buti sumali ka sa fun run. ok na rin ang 5K kahit lakad lang. yung pinaka una kong race na sinalihan ay yung 5K na susan komen race for the cure at nag enjoy ako ng husto kahit lawit dila ko sa pagod.

  2. wow, unkyel! hanga talaga ako sa yo! i wish i am still in CA or in SoCal for that matter, i can hang with the big dogs, i did. i take four strides for every stride they make. i can hang, i promise. i just need to be inspired and motivated. so now, my workouts are in spurts. very sporadic =(

    i don’t like running, but i must do it. i had to do it. im struggling right now, i can’t make myself do it consistenly, argh!

      brisk walk ka na lang. that’s almost like jogging but without the strain on the feet. if after a while you get to enjoy it, you can try running. bottom line: don’t do it unless you enjoy doing it.

      • but i dream about it, i have dreams about running if i don’t run for a while, and my body craves it, and i know it’s good for me. i can’t do brisk walk. i may as well run, hahaha! im just flat out lazy that’s all. i suppose i am also a masochist :p
