I DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD, BUT IF I DID, HE WOULD BE A BLACK LEFT-HANDED GUITARIST

1. Super Size Me. “[A] gripping, often funny, unfailingly gut-wrenching burp of a documentary about America’s fast-food industry and one man’s (his) greasy descent into its cholesterol-clogged bowels.” – James Adams, GLOBE AND MAIL

2. The Other Side of the Bed. “A satire of contemporary sexual warfare that leaves you smiling but also stung.” – Stephen Holden, NEW YORK TIMES

3. The Dreamers.

“I don’t believe in God, but if I did, he would be a black left-handed guitarist” – packingsheet, with lines like that, you can’t help but fall in love with this film. panoorin nyo ang “the dreamers”. it’s disturbing, exciting and full of sex. my kind of film. hehe. mamamatay nga pala silang lahat sa ending. bwahahaha.

hmmm.. mapanood nga yang “the dreamers” na yan. naghahanap ako ng mga foreign films nung isang araw pero nothing jumped at me, eh. matingnan nga kung tutuong “saksakan” nga sya.

  2. maganda ito ninang. although puro biro ang review ko – it is a great film. the story will draw you in and you become involved. medyo disturbing lang at times.

i love the musical references. at dahil ang setting ay 1960’s paris – puro music na gusto ko ang pinapatugtog. part din ng discussion nila ang references to jimi hendrix and eric clapton whom both i admire.

tapos, yung tribute ni bertolucci sa mga paborito niyang films – some scenes were added into the movie and was actually part of the story. what a great idea.

panoorin mo ninang, available na ata sa DVD, so pwede mo nang i-rent. kung may extra time ka, rent all 3 movies.

  4. Ay sobra talagang disturbing… disturbing in the likes of Gangs of New York and Irriversible and Once Upon a Time in America. Pero it’s a genre all its own kasi it’s menage a trois with a twist of innocence, the impressionability(?) and arrogance of the young… basta halo-halo na siya.

Grabe!

  5. ang aga mong gumising tito rolly. parehong pareho kayo ng kapit bahay ko sa antipolo na teacher din sa bughaw na paaralan. ikaw naman ay berdeng paaralan. hehe. try to get a DVD copy of the film.

o kaya, sana ipalabas sa pilipinas. i don’t think it will be shown there. but i hope it would. ironic nga that in supposedly “conservative” singapore, they are now showing these kinds of films. it’s a breath of fresh air. all this became possible when they came out with a new film rating called “R21 or Restricted 21 (for persons 21 years old and above)”.

pero may censorship pa rin and i hope totally na itong mawala rito, at least kahit sa films lang muna.

  6. hi mylabopmayn. o nga. disturbing nga. i think it was meant to be that way. but you must admit that it gets your attention and you really enter into their world.

and that the bidang babae loved janis joplin’s music and played it all the time in the film really cracked me up. hehe. the lady loves the blues.

  7. I was about to recommend SuperSizeMe! sa inyo when I read that you watched The Dreamers instead.

  8. we were trying to decide dahil maganda yung tatlong movies na ito. especially yung supersize me. introductory documentary film nga sana in preparation for Farenheit 9/11 which is showing here in two weeks.

I reach the right age….

  10. hi toni. yup, sa tingin ko walang tapon sa tatlong films na ito. try to watch them if you can, the dreamers especially.

  11. Ano? patay silang lahat sa ending? ngeks! o siya, when I do remember sa video store dito, hahanapin ko….”para malaman ko PANO sila namatay lahat”

  12. hi batjay…

gosh…im enjoying all your entries…napa-ihi ako sa kakatawa.

Together nothing is forbidden.” Actually medyo film buff ako and against censorship. If you have time please visit my site. 🙂

  13. hi aleq.

thanks for the dalaw and for the comment. i am pleased that you did because i normally don’t get comments from film buffs (for understandable reasons). i visited your site for a while today. cool. i’ll try to get to read some more later on. i try to showcase the films that i watch from time to time. especially now since i am already based in the states – my cable subscription allows me to watch a great number of films and the quality is outstanding.

for instance, i have a free subscrition to the sundance channel where a lot of those indy films are shown. they showed a bio on janis joplin last night and it blew my mind. great great stuff.

    cheers!
