And these romantic dreams in my head

  3. Great post. Your story reminded me of this old American gentleman who set next to me on a flight to San Diego a couple of years ago. He and his wife were both in their late 70s and were on their way to San Diego to get on a cruise ship to the Carribean. Anyway, it was obvious that he and his wife both had serious medical conditions. Whenever she had to get up to go to the lavatory, she would get up real slow and her face showed that she was in real pain. He moved a bit slow too and to a lesser degree, his face also showed pain whenever he had to stand up every half hour or so to stretch and massage his legs.

We got to talking and I still remember what he told me. “Don’t ever believe what people say that the retirement years are the ‘golden years’. They are not.” He went on to say “How could it be the golden years when more than half the time, you’re in pain.”

This leads back to what you said. It is truly important to remain active mentally and physically. We really need to take very good care of ourselves while we’re “young”. The true golden years are those where we could do and enjoy a lot of the things we still love.

  4. Okay yang “preamble” mo, batjay, for keeping young! (Ha-ha-ha!) I have seen people in their golden years still hiking up the mountains of Ehrwald in Austria! It’s really all a matter of will and spirit. Siyempre, choice din talaga iyan. May friend ako in his early 40’s nagsasabing matanda na siya—puwes matanda na talaga siya! Sabi niya, e. My husband has also signs of hereditary diabetes pero this makes him more health conscious…but like you, it won’t stop him go for activities that makes for being Alive!

Also…eka nga ni marcel marceau (ang yumaong mime-ist): I could have taken more care of my body if I knew I would live this old.

  6. that’s the spirit, bosing.

As regards the tulay. pag sa San Juanico, gagastos ka pa pauwi dito. MArami namang tulay dyan. On second thought, baka pag uuwi ka pa, magkaron ka ng change of heart kaya mas okay na rin. Me aakay na sakin.

  7. oo unkyel..tama yan philosophy mo..my father is 70..a retired doctor..but if you take a look at him, he looks like he’s 55…he’s a very active guy for his age…hehe…climbed mountains when he was younger…climbed mayon volcano 8 times, reached the crater 5 times..not bad eh?Last wish niya nga, i-scatter daw ang ash niya sa crater ng Mayon.

Sa tingin ko kasi, nasa sayo na rin yan kung gusto mo ng sedentary na buhay habang tumatanda o “live and let live” attitude na lang kung baga…in other words, “carpie diem!” seize the day! hehehe. Ay alam ko na, Unkyel Batjay! Panoorin mo yung movie na “The Bucket List” ni Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Basta. Maganda yan. It’s about making the most out of the time you have.

    Sana nakatulong. Hehehe.

    Nagmamahal,
    Mura d’ giant

I meant to email you sooner but work got in the way, hehehe. Wish we were there to cheer you on as you crossed the finish line, but it looks like you had that covered! Were you able to hook up with any of the finish-line photographers for your picture? That would be neat if bib #11501’s dramatic finish was immortalized for posterity!

I mentioned your half-marathon attempt to my coworker (who also runs) and repeated my common refrain that I’ve never built up a tolerance for running because I give up too easily. (Even though I had to run in basic training I only did well enough to get by.) She encouraged me to start small and suggested that after a reasonable period of training, maybe I could join her in a 5K event in this area.

    Here’s hoping that I don’t pass out…Daisy

i remember my first 5k race, takot na takot ako dahil hindi ko alam what to expect. but i did cross the finish line and it gave me confidence to do it again the following year. i must say, masarap tumakbo sa actual race dahil mga 30 – 40 minutes mo lang itong tatakbuhin. it’s the preparation that is the hardest kaya good luck.

hindi pa available ang race photos sa surf city marathon site. i do hope when they have it developed ay mayroon akong kuha sa finish line.

salamat nga pala sa bati mo.

  11. siiiino ba naman kasi ang may sabing mahina ang tuhod mo? kung sino man ang may sabi nun, well, dey donet nowet. ako dapat ang tanungin. di ba Pa? *kindat* 😀

    • Good for the health yun kuya…keep it up…it’s a one way to live longer….always smile den para walang wringkles….jajajaja..
