7 SONGS

mga kanta (not necessarily in the order of preference) na nasa playlist ko’t pinakikinggan lately.

1. Jeremy, Pearl Jam
2. Dirty Work, Steely Dan
3. Dani California, Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. Baby Seat, Barenaked Ladies
5. Tiny Bubbles, Alex Kaeck and His Keikis
6. Sugar Mountain, Neil Young
7. Pilgrim’s Progress, Kris Kristofferson

At home, drawing pictures
of mountain tops
With him on top
lemin yellow sun,
arms raised in a v
And the dead lay
in pools of maroon below

2. Dirty Work, Steely Dan – kinanta ito ng steely dan nung nagpunta sila rito sa amin. hindi si donald fagen ang kumanta nito actually kaya nung concert, yung back-up singer nilang sexy chickababe ang bumanat at ang galing niya. catchy ang kantang ito kaya parati akong na-la-last song syndrome dito. theme song ng mga kabit (ie, dedicated sa mga mistresses at… teka muna, ano ba ang lalaking mistress? mistertress siguro ano). read the lyrics and you’ll know why.

Times are hard
You’re afraid to pay the fee
So you find yourself somebody
Who can do the job for free
When you need a bit of lovin’
Cause your man is out of town
That’s the time you get me runnin’
And you know I’ll be around

I’m a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah

Black bandana,
sweet Louisiana
Robbin’ on a bank
in the state of Indiana
She’s a runner,
rebel and a stunner
On her merry way
saying baby what you gonna
Lookin’ down the barrel
of a hot metal .45
Just another way to survive

“GROW UP you fucking spineless brat!”

You left your home town in the spring
And turned your back on everything
You thought your life would just go by
Without a pause to wonder, don’t be silly

But you can’t live your life in the baby seat
You’ve got to stand on your own
Don’t admit defeat

5. Tiny Bubbles, Alex Kaeck – last month, nangailangan yung kaibigan namin ng kanta about surfing kaya nag search ako sa iTunes for surf music, which led me to hawaiian music, which led me to this song. ang “tiny bubbles” ang isa sa mga main stay na kanta ng aking kabataan. sikat ito during the 1970’s nung nag-aagawan sina ate guy at ate vi sa pagkanta ng mga hula songs. bumaha na naman ng magagandang memories nang mapakinggan ko ito ulit after so many years… ngayon ko nga lang na discover na “tiny bubbles in the wine” pala ang tamang lyrics nito. all the while eh ang akala namin “tiny bubbles in hawaii”. medyo nadisappoint ako. mas gusto ko yung maling lyrics.

So here’s to the golden moon
And here’s to the silver sea
And mostly here’s a toast
To you and me

Theres a girl just down the aisle,
Oh, to turn and see her smile.
You can hear the words she wrote
As you read the hidden note.

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons

7. Pilgrim’s Progress, Kris Kristofferson – kuha ito sa last CD ni kris na kakarelease lang a few months ago. karamihan ng mga kanta rito ay mga kwento ng isang taong tumanda at medyo lipas na sa panahon. hindi na pareho ang boses ni kris dito at bakas na ang lahat ng mga naranasan niya sa kanyang mahabang buhay. medyo gumagarlgal na’t paos. perhaps that’s what attracted me to this song. ang pilgrim’s progress ay series ng mga almost self doubt questions that basically boils down to: at my age, do i still have what it takes?

Am I young enough
to believe in revolution
Am I strong enough
to get down on my knees and pray
Am I high enough
on the chain of evolution
To respect myself, and my brother and my sister
And perfect myself in my own peculiar way

  2. Ok iyang Jeremy ng Pearl Jam, Batjay. Yeah, same din, that song introduced me to the band, just like Smells Like Teen Spirit to Nirvana.

And grunge galour na kami ng brother ko during the 90’s! 🙂

Makadownload nga rin ng Dani California ng Red Hot Chilis.

  3. yep, dani california nga ang one of the best songs of the summer tapos galing din yung video! and yes, pag maganda yung beat, lalong pagbilis and takbo nga!

thanks for the tips on the beatles. my mom was a big fan and i do know their songs, but i don’t own their albums. medyo late na ako ano? pero i’ll catch up!
